Many years ago my wife Vee suggested to our children that they club together to buy a set of oil paints for my bithday - something she knew I would really appreciate. I regret to say that the pressures of my work as a producer meant that the box went unopened for nearly twenty years. When I did eventually open the box, much to my suprise I found that the oils were still as good as new. In fact I'm still using some of them today. So I studied painting techniques at The Paul Taggart Studio and set to work, which ten years later, and following considerable enthusiasm and encouragement from the magazine Cheshire Life, resulted in the first exhibition of my work. I've discovered that I treat the process of my painting in much the same way as I would in the production of a television programme. The fun and fulfilment is in the doing, the gradual build up of a finish product, once its done, move on to the next one. As with television shows, where its necessary to meet transmission dates, I always seem to be working on several painting projects at any one time, for when painting in oils you need to wait for the layers of paint to dry before you can move on to the next stage. |
